Ultrasonography

Obstetrics & Gynecology Associates, Inc. has achieved accreditation in recognition that the practice has met voluntary standards set by the diagnostic ultrasound profession. The entire practice was reviewed, including the practice's personnel; physical facilities; documentation, storage, and record-keeping practices; policies and procedures; quality assurance methods; and how the practice meets the AIUM Standards

Accreditation by the American Institute of Ultrasound in Medicine demonstrates our clinical excellence and commitment to the highest quality patient care when providing diagnostic ultrasound services. To become accredited, we had to undergo a rigorous and detailed application process. Why? Because we care about you!

Obstetrics & Gynecology Associates offers a state of the art ultrasound department. Our ultrasonographers are licensed and experienced in all aspects of obstetric and gynecologic ultrasound.

Here are some particular facts you need to know before you arrive for your ultrasound:

OB Ultrasounds

  1. Ultrasounds are usually performed vaginally until your 13th week of gestation. After this time they are performed abdominally.
  2. A full bladder is NOT required.
  3. No videotaping will be conducted by the patient or the ultrasound technician.
  4. Ultrasounds are performed for medical reasons only. They are not included in the global fee. We will file your insurance claim for you.

GYN Ultrasounds

  • Gynecologic ultrasounds are performed vaginally; therefore, a full bladder is NOT required. Occasionally a physician may order an abdominal ultrasound of the pelvis, which would require a full bladder. Under these circumstances, the patient will need to finish drinking 32 ounces of any fluid, with the exception of milk, one hour prior to the ultrasound.

Saline Ultrasound

A full bladder is NOT required.

An initial vaginal ultrasound is performed to evaluate the uterus and the ovaries. The physician will then place a small tube through the cervix and dispense a small amount of saline solution into the uterus while the ultrasound is being performed. The results will be available to the patient immediately after the scan is complete.

All Ultrasounds

As our rooms can be limited for space and too many people in the room can be a distraction for the technician, only (1) guest may accompany you to your ultrasound. Additionally, all cell phones must remain OFF during your ultrasound scan.

AIUM Accreditation

Obstetrics & Gynecology Associates is proud to be AIUM accredited in Obstetric & Gynecologic Ultrasound!

AIUM accreditation, a voluntary peer-review process, involves a stem-to-stern, top-to-bottom check-up on all aspects of ultrasound. These aspects include Physician and Ultrasound Tech qualifications, physical facilities, the ultrasound machines, the detailed protocols for performing each ultrasound test, and the policies in place for safeguarding the health and safety of every patient who has an ultrasound examination, plus much more.
